Smoke Alarm Installation Program Saving Lives
Jul 18 2005 - Regina

The Regina Fire Department and partners, the Regina & Region Home Builder’s Association and Saskatchewan Government Insurance, facilitate this program which sees Regina’s Fire Fighters visit homes to ensure they have working smoke alarms.

The firefighters visit the homes of Regina Citizens and offer to check their smoke alarm. They evaluate if they have smoke alarms installed in the proper locations and that they are in working order. If not, they install one at no expense to the home owner.

This spring 550 homes were selected for the program and firefighters installed 272 smoke alarms in 201 residences

The Smoke Alarm Installation Program has practical and immediate safety benefits for the City of Regina’s highest fire risk neighborhoods. Since initiating the program in 1998 there has been 2318 homes provided with 3152 smoke alarms, an essential early warning tool necessary to escape and survive a fire. Smoke alarms save lives, and each year this program is conducted, more Regina residents are provided this security in their homes.
