On December 7, 2004 at the Hotel Saskatchewan Radisson Plaza there was an Investiture of the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal of Canada by Her Honour the Houourable Dr. Lynda Haverstock, Lieutenant Govenor of Saskatchewan.
Since 1985 the Government of Canada, through the Exemplary Service Medal, has been recognizing long and outstanding service in our high risk profession of providing public security.
Each of the recipients of the award has personified the Code of Ethics adopted by our Association.
"As FireFighters and members of the I.A.F.F. our fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard and preserve life and property against the elements of fire and disaster; and maintain a proficiency in the art and science of fire suppression and rescue, training and inspection, hazardous materials, emergency medical service and public education.
We will uphold the standards of our profession, continually search for new and improved methods, and disseminate and share our knowledge and skills with our contemporaries and successors.
We will, at all times, respect the laws of our nation and our community and the property and rights of all citizens.
We recognize the badge of our office as a symbol of public faith, and we accept it as a public trust to be held as long as we, individually, are true to the ethics of the fire service."
Each of the recipients' endurance to live up to our ethics is why they have been honoured. Each of them have served the citizens well through their commitment to provide. Such a commitment is sometimes harder for family members to bear than the one who makes it, so on that evening the R.P.F.F.A. saluted the recipient's partners, spouses and loved ones and invited each one of them to share fully in the honors accorded that evening. The Association thanked the Government of Canada for recognizing the brave work of our brothers and sisters and pledged to continue to serve the citizens to the best of our abilities. |
